About The Position

The Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech) supports physicians and nursing staff in delivering high-quality, efficient patient care within a fast-paced emergency department. This role is responsible for performing clinical and non-clinical tasks, assisting with patient care, and ensuring the department operates smoothly while maintaining a safe and compassionate environment.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in an emergency department, urgent care, or hospital setting strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with nursing staff in an effective and timely manner around issues related to patient care and patient condition.
  • Ensure that appropriate stock items, supplies, and equipment are available to the Unit based on volume, established par levels and clinical needs; order and maintain Unit supplies and equipment as needs indicate.
  • Ensure that patient rooms are stocked, equipped and cleaned appropriately, as needs indicate and as patient volumes change.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and needs to Maintenance or Bio Medical Engineering as appropriate.
  • Complete documentation data on the patient’s medical records as care is provided, condition changes, and as clinical needs or supervisor indicates.
  • Monitor patients requiring one to one observation reporting change(s) in conditions and needs, and care as supervisor indicates.
  • Transport patients as needed to other Departments for treatment and/or arrange for other resources to do so as needs indicate.
  • Participate in quality improvement processes and systems to assure targeted outcomes, exceptional service delivery and efficiency.
  • Demonstrate cooperative, collaborative, participative behavior with peers in the performance of work, goals, quality improvement efforts and patient care delivery.
  • Participate in the orientation of new personnel as requested.
  • Maintain flexibility and remain responsive to unit and overall nursing department needs in regards to patient and work assignments.
  • Utilize equipment properly considering its’ maintenance, safety and availability.
  • Integrate cost effective measures into practice.
  • Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, confidentiality, quality improvement program, compliance, safety, infection control and environmental standards.
  • Maintain professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences or in-services, professional affiliations or journals to stay abreast of current trends in field of expertise.
  • Meet annual competency and retraining requirements.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Perform other functions/duties as requested.
