About The Position

The Emergency Department (ED) Technician assists clinical professionals in providing direct patient care under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). The ED Technician performs basic clinical and technical duties, ensuring safe, efficient, and compassionate delivery of care to all patients within the Emergency Department.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Course OR Completion of First Semester in a RN or LPN Program.
  • None (Work Experience)
  • For EMTs: EMT Certification in the State of Florida.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained.
  • Previous experience as a ED Technician or Certified Nursing Assistant, or Nurse Tech.
  • Exemplifies dependability, reliability, and flexibility in assisting other associates and maintaining productivity.
  • Demonstrates personal accountability in economically using and caring for equipment and supplies.
  • Must meet unit-specific care requirements.
  • Ability to speak and understand verbal and written instructions in the English language
  • Aptitude to focus and prioritize multiple activities.

Responsibilities

  • Collects, records, and reports accurate patient information, while providing routine procedures and basic care to patients in a clean and safe environment as directed by an RN
  • Provides service to patients and families with sensitivity and respect for their expectations, age, cultural and individual needs.
  • Responds to call lights and completes other assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Adheres to department service standards such as purposeful rounding, bedside shift report, and white board management to enhance customer communication.
  • Communicates effectively with all members of the healthcare team to promote effective team functioning, additionally seeking feedback and coaching to improve customer experience.
  • Contributes to the customer experience goals as evidenced by positive patient experience scores, comments and other written compliments.
  • Accesses rooms that contain IV solutions, authorized medications and supplies occasionally as directed for patient care accountabilities.
  • Complies to National Patient Safety Goals (i.e. use of two patient identifiers) when accessing patient information and in performing job duties.
