The Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech) assists physicians and registered nurses in providing technical care to patients. This role involves performing various procedures such as phlebotomy, transporting patients, monitoring vital signs, wound care, inserting Foley catheters, and obtaining lab specimens. The ED Tech may also perform IV starts if permitted by state regulations. Key responsibilities include documenting patient information and procedures, communicating observations to the registered nurse, processing daily patient charges through the Electronic Health Record (EHR), and collaborating with physicians to facilitate patient care. The role also involves coordinating communications, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, monitoring and troubleshooting equipment, and performing patient positioning and transporting duties that require physical exertion. The ED Tech must demonstrate knowledge of age-specific care and principles of growth and development.
