About The Position

The ED Tech - Emergency Department Technician - South Shore position in the Emergency Department at Aurora St. Lukes South Shore is a part-time role requiring 24 hours per week. The schedule involves working 1100-2300 two days a week, with holiday and weekend requirements. The pay range for this position is $21.85 - $32.80. This role assists physicians and registered nurses in providing technical patient care, including phlebotomy, patient transport, monitoring, wound care, Foley catheter insertion, and obtaining lab specimens. The technician also documents information, communicates observations to nurses, processes patient charges, collaborates with physicians, and coordinates communications. Maintaining a safe and clean work environment, monitoring equipment, and performing patient positioning and transporting duties are also key responsibilities. The role requires the ability to provide age-appropriate care and demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles.

Requirements

  • Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry in which the TM practices, or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic license issued through national registry or by the state in which the TM practices or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic Intravenous license issued through national registry or by the state in which the TM practices, or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Intermediate license issued through national registry or by the state in which the TM practices, or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Paramedic license issued through national registry or by the state in which the TM practices., or Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
  • High School Graduate.
  • Typically requires 1 year experience.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to work with Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, patients and their families.
  • Must maintain skill and recertification as required by regulation and organization.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and priorities.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Team members will maintain annual educational requirements for hospital based certifications (e.g.DNV, CARF or others).
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently during work shift.
  • Must be able to: Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist.
  • Must be able to: Lift up to 20 lbs over the head.
  • Must be able to: Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
  • Must be able to: Push/pull with 30 lbs of force.
  • Must be able to: Perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
  • Will be required to use foot pedals on carts or machines.
  • Must have functional sight and hearing.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the physicians and registered nurses in providing technical care of the patients by performing phlebotomy, transporting patients to other departments, placing patient on cardiac and vital sign monitors, performs wound care, inserts Foley catheters, and obtains lab specimens.
  • May perform IV starts if allowed by state regulations.
  • Documents information/procedures and promptly communicates observations, concerns and needs of the patient to the registered nurse.
  • Processes daily patient charges and/or related procedure through the Electronic Health record (EHR).
  • Collaborates with physicians to support communications required to facilitate patient care.
  • Coordinates and facilitates all forms of communications (phone, verbal, paging, electronic, fax, and EMS system).
  • Maintains a clean and safe working environment, following department safety policies and standard precautions.
  • Monitors equipment and troubleshoots minor problems.
  • Arranges repair of major malfunctions.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
