About The Position

This is a 0.9 FTE position, with 0.6 FTE in a regularly scheduled block rotation within the Emergency Department and 0.3 FTE designated for cross-departmental coverage of Med/Surg and ED based on staffing needs, patient volume, acuity, and demonstrated competency. The work schedule is from 6:00 pm to 6:30 am with every 3rd weekend rotation and requires two holidays per year. The ED Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. They maintain accountability for their own practice, provide nursing care, participate in patient and family teaching, and provide leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary, nursing, and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the acute care setting. The ED Registered Nurse also delegates/provides direction to other nursing personnel in the unit in accordance with their level of experience and expertise.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing with current WI RN licensure in good standing.
  • Minimum of one year RN experience (or equivalent) required.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC (or similar trauma certification) or willing to obtain.
  • Meets OMC health requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one year ED experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with registration, ED clinicians, and Urgent Care clinicians to direct patients to the appropriate care setting
  • Initiates approved nursing-driven orders and clinical protocols within the RN's scope of practice, organizational policy, and validated competency
  • Provides skilled nursing care in accordance with Nurse Practice acts.
  • Delegates care appropriately to other team members
  • Follows the Standards of Nursing Care as well as the Nursing Process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation while delivering high quality patient care.
  • Continually strives to meet and exceed customer service standards in all interactions with customers, which include patients, visitors, other hospital employees, and medical staff
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills.
  • Personal accountability to stay up to date on all communication.
  • Communicates an accurate and concise end of shift patient report.
  • Interacts with physicians regarding patient status on an on-going basis.
  • Communicates effectively with all members of the patient care team.
  • Communicates patient status and plan of care with patient and their family.
  • Attends staff meetings and mandatory education.
  • Maintains appropriate licenses and certifications independently.
  • Daily audit of crash cart, trauma cart, pediatric cart, glucometer and refrigerator temperatures with completion of associated documentation
  • Participates in emergency response, trauma, cardiac arrest, stroke, sepsis, and other time-sensitive clinical protocols.
  • Performs rapid assessment and prioritization of patients based on acuity.
  • Participates in stabilization and transfer of patients requiring a higher level of care.
  • Assists with stabilization, preparation, coordination, and transfer of patients to facilities capable of providing the level of care required, including communication with receiving facilities and transport teams.
  • Performs initial nursing assessment and triage in accordance with established ED triage processes and validated competency.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned within the scope of the position, licensure, education, training, and demonstrated competency.
