About The Position

The Charge Nurse – Emergency Services is a Registered Nurse who provides direct patient care and frontline clinical leadership within the Emergency Department. Under the direction of the Department Director or Manager, this role oversees daily operations, coordinates patient care, supports nursing staff, and ensures compliance with policies and standards in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Postsecondary (Cert/Diploma/Program Grad) from an accredited school of nursing (Required)
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the state of practice Upon Hire (Required)
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire (Required)
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support and PALS Upon Hire (Required)
  • 2+ years clinical nursing experience in emergency services (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing (Preferred)
  • TNCC - Trauma Nursing Core Course or ENPC certification Upon Hire (Preferred)
  • Prior Experience as charge nurse or in a leadership role (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Delivers comprehensive emergency nursing care to patients across the lifespan, based on unit scope and patient acuity.
  • Leads nursing operations on the unit by overseeing patient flow, staffing, assignments, and prioritization of care.
  • Acts as a clinical resource to staff and assists with escalation of urgent or complex patient needs.
  • Serves as liaison between nurses, providers, support personnel, and ancillary departments.
  • Ensures timely communication and documentation of patient status, changes in condition, and critical events.
  • Participates in the orientation, mentoring, and evaluation of unit nursing staff.
  • Supports incident documentation, follow-up, and quality improvement activities.
  • Ensures compliance with departmental procedures, hospital policies, and regulatory standards.
  • Participates in emergency response drills and supports trauma or disaster preparedness activities.
  • Models professionalism, accountability, and effective communication with patients, families, and the care team.
  • Assists in shift scheduling, timekeeping, and performance feedback under direction of leadership.
