About The Position

Thompson Health is seeking a per diem ED Medical History Technician in the Emergency Department. This role involves assisting in the nonprofessional aspects of collecting and inputting pre-hospital medication data into the electronic record. This may include interviewing patients, contacting pharmacies, communicating with physician offices, and utilizing electronic medical records/databases. The technician will facilitate safe and timely patient admissions by entering home medication information into the health information system and communicating with ED staff and admitting providers to aid in medication reconciliation decisions upon admission. All medication-associated duties are performed under the supervision of licensed personnel.

Requirements

  • High School education required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Skill in daily communication including effectively gathering and disseminating information.
  • Flexibility in decision making and prioritizing assignments.
  • Skill in proactively resolving problems, recommending, and implementing continuous quality improvements.
  • Providing customer service and support in a manner consistent with the health system’s goals and expectations.
  • Actively guarding the confidentiality of sensitive info including but not limited to the patients, staff and the health system.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as Pharmacy Tech or knowledge related to medications & electronic medical record databases.
  • Associate Degree preferred.
  • Prior history and knowledge of medication nomenclature (ie. pharmacy technician) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the nonprofessional aspects of collecting & inputting pre-hospital medication data into the electronic record.

  • Communicating with ED staff and admitting providers to allow them the ability to make medication reconciliation decisions upon admission.
  • Performing all medication-associated duties under the supervision of licensed personnel (nurses, pharmacists).
