About The Position

This position requires a Registered Nurse with specialized knowledge and skills in psychiatric nursing and physical assessment, particularly in the context of Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). The nurse will be responsible for identifying and addressing nursing care problems that arise during the ECT process, from pre-operative to post-operative stages. The role involves significant interaction with patients, families, and healthcare professionals, and requires the ability to manage stressful situations involving severely ill psychiatric patients.

Requirements

• Two years of college education in nursing.
• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland.
• One to two years of inpatient psychiatric nursing experience, including regular practice of physical assessment skills.
• Demonstrated teaching skills.
• Analytical abilities sufficient to identify nursing care problems.
• Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients, staff, other departments and disciplines, families, and physicians (51-80% of work time).
• Ability to work with severely ill psychiatric patients, frequently producing a high level of stress and mental fatigue (51-80% of work time).
• Ability to talk, hear, and possess mid-range vision and field of vision.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care during the ECT process, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative stages.
• Identify and address nursing care problems arising during the prescribed course of ECT.
• Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Perform psychiatric nursing and physical assessment skills.
• Interact effectively with patients, staff, other departments and disciplines, families, and physicians.
• Manage stressful situations involving severely ill psychiatric patients.
