About The Position

This position requires a Registered Nurse with specialized knowledge and skills in psychiatric nursing and physical assessment, specifically for Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) procedures. The role involves providing nursing care during pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases of ECT, requiring a high level of analytical ability to identify and address patient care needs. The nurse will interact extensively with patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare professionals, often in high-stress situations involving severely ill psychiatric patients.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in nursing.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland.
  • One to two years of inpatient psychiatric nursing experience.
  • Regular practice of physical assessment skills.
  • Demonstrated teaching skills.
  • High level of analytical abilities to identify nursing care problems.
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients, staff, other departments and disciplines, families, and physicians (51-80% of work time).
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to talk, hear, and possess mid-range vision and field of vision.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care during pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases of ECT.
  • Perform physical assessments on patients undergoing ECT.
  • Identify nursing care problems arising during the ECT process.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing with patients, families, staff, physicians, and other departments.
  • Teach patients and families as needed.
  • Manage high-stress situations involving severely ill psychiatric patients.
