About The Position

The Care Collaborative at the University of Colorado Anschutz is seeking an eConsult Research Program Manager to advance a growing program of applied research focused on specialty care access, learning health systems, and telehealth. This role builds on an established portfolio of research, analytics, and evaluation supporting our eConsult program and expands the scientific infrastructure needed for the program's next phase of growth and impact. This role sits at the intersection of health services research, implementation science, applied data science, and operational strategy. The successful candidate will develop and execute a strategic research agenda evaluating whether eConsult improves access, quality, efficiency, equity, workforce capacity, and healthcare sustainability while translating findings into clinical outcomes, operational improvement, policy strategy, and scalable innovation. Operating as a senior scientific and technical lead, this position guides complex analytical pipelines and research methodology without direct supervisory authority over staff. Findings from this work directly inform operational improvement and statewide specialty access policy. Beyond individual projects, this person will help build research infrastructure that outlasts any single study and creates the foundation for the next generation of specialty access research at The Care Collaborative. This role applies advanced quantitative methods, data science, artificial intelligence, and implementation science to build a learning health system where research continuously informs practice, and practice generates new opportunities for research.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Services Research, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Data Science, Health Informatics, Implementation Science, Public Health, or a closely related field from an accredited university.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience leading independent research, analytics, or evaluation initiatives in healthcare, academic, public health, payer, or related applied settings.
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and executing observational studies, program evaluations, pragmatic research, or other real-world evidence studies using complex healthcare datasets.
  • Advanced proficiency in statistical programming and data management using R, Python, SQL, or comparable analytic tools.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with professional, administrative, and other personnel; to effectively present information both orally and in written form in the office setting as well as to those outside the office with whom ECHO Colorado needs to communicate.
  • Ability to perform with a high degree of independent action and to prioritize a high volume of work to achieve a high level of productivity and accuracy.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree (MS, MPH, MA, or other with research training, or equivalent) in Health Services Research, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Data Science, Health Informatics, Implementation Science, Public Health, or a closely related field.
  • Ten or more (10+) years of experience in applied research, analytics, or embedded evaluation within a learning health system, academic medical center, health system, payer, public sector, or healthcare innovation environment.
  • Experience applying advanced quantitative methods such as regression modeling, longitudinal analysis, causal inference, time series analysis, or other applied statistical approaches.
  • Experience working with real-world healthcare data, such as electronic health records, claims data, survey data, registry data, or operational datasets.
  • Experience leading peer-reviewed publications, scientific abstracts, technical reports, or grant-supported research.
  • Experience managing research compliance activities, including IRB submissions, data governance, regulatory documentation, or data use agreements.
  • Residency within the state of Colorado is strongly preferred (to support operational needs and hybrid engagement), though exceptional out-of-state candidates may be considered.
  • Experience in health services research, implementation science, digital health, telehealth, specialty care access, care delivery transformation, or population health.
  • Experience with healthcare data infrastructure such as Epic Clarity, Caboodle, enterprise data warehouses, REDCap, Databricks, cloud computing environments, or similar platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Works with faculty/researchers to identify appropriate biostatistical analyses to address research questions and to carry out these analyses on large health-related datasets.
  • Design and provide scientific leadership on observational studies and other real-world research using clinical, operational, claims, survey, and other healthcare data (pragmatic research).
  • Work within a collaborative cloud-enabled analytics environment leveraging modern version control, reproducible pipelines, and advanced cloud infrastructure to tackle large-scale real-world data.
  • Apply advanced statistical, computational, and emerging AI methods to evaluate specialty access, utilization, quality, equity, cost, workforce, and system outcomes.
  • Lead rigorous biostatistical analyses of large, complex health datasets to answer high-impact research questions and generate actionable evidence on healthcare delivery, access, utilization, quality, equity, cost, and health outcomes.
  • Develop analytic approaches for provider-to-provider telehealth, including predictive modeling, natural language processing, and utilization pattern analysis.
  • Lead the governance of research datasets, analytic documentation, version control, regulatory compliance, and responsible data stewardship.
  • Partner with enterprise analytics, informatics, EHR, and data teams to support data acquisition, linkage, validation, and scalable infrastructure.
  • Disseminate findings through peer-reviewed publications, scientific presentations, grant proposals, and executive-facing reports.
  • Develop common data models and analytic frameworks for multi-site and national collaborations.
  • Translate research findings into operational recommendations.
  • Support statewide and national specialty access initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to expand evaluation infrastructure and real-world evidence capabilities.
  • Lead the Care Collaborative Research Committee in the development of sustainable measurement strategies to assess progress toward the goals of the research program.
  • Serve as a scientific lead for external research partnerships.
  • Develop and/or support grant proposals and funding strategies.
  • Serve as a co-author of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Maintain and expand The Care Collaborative's national visibility through active participation in professional conferences and collaboratives, including presentations, posters, panel discussions, and networking.
  • Contribute to and drive strategic growth and innovation initiatives.
  • Oversee IRB protocols, data governance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Mentor research staff, analysts, and trainees.
  • Build trusted, cross-functional partnerships with clinical, operational, and informatics teammates to contribute to workflow refinement and our culture of continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Care Collaborative staff, fostering a culture of research rigor and skill development.
  • Foster robust partnerships with academic health systems, Medicaid agencies, health plans, and community organizations.
