Economist/Sr. Economist - RESSC
About The Position
The Research Department has one opening for a fungible Economist/Sr. Economist to work on structural and climate policies. Under the Structural and Climate Policies Division, the selected candidate will contribute to strengthening the department’s work on key macro-structural topics, including labor markets, firms’ dynamics, structural reforms, industrial policies, climate change strategies and their co-benefits. The candidate will play a significant role in shaping and implementing the research agenda of the department in these areas, the integration of research results in the multilateral surveillance products of the Fund, and the IMF’s effort to enhance the bilateral surveillance of macro-structural and climate issues in the context of Article IVs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven research record in macro-structural topics, possess experience in the application of modern empirical techniques to macroeconomic and microeconomic data, and exhibit a strong capacity to translate research findings into actionable policy recommendations. Familiarity with modeling and with the topic of artificial intelligence would be regarded as strong assets. Additionally, a solid background in macroeconomics is essential.
Requirements
- PhD in economics, macroeconomics, international economics, development economics, or in related fields.
- Demonstrated capacity to work independently.
- Carry out high-quality policy-relevant research on macro-structural or climate issues.
- Excellent analytical and technical skills.
- Ability to write well and quickly.
- Ability to communicate effectively with different audiences.
- Strong leadership skills.
- A publication record in peer-reviewed journals and/or high-level policy reports commensurate with the candidate’s level of experience is expected.
- Proven research record in macro-structural topics.
- Experience in the application of modern empirical techniques to macroeconomic and microeconomic data.
- Strong capacity to translate research findings into actionable policy recommendations.
- Solid background in macroeconomics.
