About The Position

The Climate and Inclusive Growth Division of the Institute for Capacity Development (ICD) is seeking to fill an Economist/Sr. Economist position in Washington, D.C. The division’s capacity development activities focus on MACRO-STRUCTURAL topics and cover a range of areas, including inclusive growth, regional economic integration, macroeconomics of climate, artificial intelligence, industrial policy, macroeconomic management of natural resources, and vulnerability diagnostics. The division also delivers training and technical assistance on integrating natural disasters into macroeconomic frameworks (FPP-type frameworks) and models (e.g. DSGE). The selected candidate will contribute to ICD training and technical assistance missions.

Requirements

  • Considerable graduate work in economics, or equivalent, is required.
  • Significant practical experience (at least 2-3 years) in developing and operating macroeconomic frameworks and/or macroeconomic models.
  • Strong knowledge of econometric techniques and related software, including Python, Stata, MATLAB (specifically, DYNARE and IRIS toolboxes) and EViews.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a flexible and cooperative attitude, and the ability to work effectively with people at all levels.
  • Fluency in oral and written English is essential.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to work both independently and in teams and must be flexible and able to work on tight deadlines.
  • Strong time and project management skills are essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in one or more macro-structural areas mentioned above, is highly encouraged.
  • Working knowledge of another language (including Arabic, French, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish) would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Participating in training delivery, including in-person, virtual and online modalities both at IMF headquarters in Washington, D.C. and across Regional Capacity Development Centers.
  • Participating in technical assistance activities, including joining these missions to member countries.
  • Developing new and updating training materials, including lectures, workshop and case studies.
  • Collaborating with ICD staff to advance the macroeconomic modeling practices and undertake empirical work to deepen macro-structural analysis.
  • Supporting the development and application of macroeconomic models (e.g. DSGE), including calibration to selected countries, and training officials in the use and maintenance of analytical toolkits.
