About The Position

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is seeking an Economist/Senior Economist to work on Oman within the Middle East and Central Asia Department, Division D. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage in surveillance of a country undergoing significant economic reforms and facing policy-relevant challenges. Oman has made substantial progress in its reform agenda, but further efforts are needed in economic diversification and job creation, especially as hydrocarbon resources are projected to deplete. Key policy discussions involve maintaining fiscal discipline, modernizing the monetary policy framework, and accelerating economic transformation by addressing the public sector's footprint. Oman's economy has demonstrated resilience due to its strategic location and prudent policies. The selected candidate will be involved in all aspects of the work, including macroeconomic analysis, coordinating the macro-framework, drafting reports, managing desk responsibilities, and liaising with various stakeholders. The role also involves contributing to the division's analytical work on GCC countries, preparing briefing materials for management visits, and reviewing departmental papers. Opportunities exist to participate in policy groups and contribute to broader analytical and policy initiatives within the department. Division D covers Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
