About The Position

Pasadena City College is hiring three Full-Time Temporary Economics Instructor commencing with the 2026-2027 academic year. We are looking for an educator who makes economics engaging, accessible, and relevant to students' lives. The ideal candidate helps students connect economic principles to contemporary issues such as public policy, labor, global markets, inequality, and personal financial decision-making while fostering critical thinking, analytical skills, and informed civic engagement. Requirements

  • Master's in economics OR Bachelor's in economics AND Master's in business, business administration, business management, business education, finance or political science OR The equivalent
  • Degree must be shown as conferred on transcript.
  • Some degrees may require equivalency.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary economic theory and the ability to make economic concepts accessible to students with varied educational experiences and levels of preparation.
  • A commitment to equity-minded, culturally responsive, and student-centered teaching practices that promote equitable student success.
  • The ability to explain complex economic concepts in ways that are engaging, accessible, and relevant to students' lived experiences.
  • Experience using instructional technology and learning management systems, including Canvas, to support high-quality teaching in face-to-face, hybrid, online, and dual enrollment environments.
  • Knowledge of effective assessment practices and the ability to use assessment data to improve student learning and instructional effectiveness.
  • Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, staff, administrators, and community partners.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, and ethnic diversity of community college students.
  • A commitment to continuous professional growth, innovation, collaboration, and academic excellence.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate in Economics from an accredited institution.
  • Successful teaching experience at a community college or other institution serving diverse student populations.
  • Experience teaching economics in multiple instructional modalities, including face-to-face, hybrid, online, and dual enrollment.
  • Demonstrated use of culturally responsive, equity-minded, and student-centered teaching practices that promote student engagement, persistence, transfer, and achievement.
  • Experience with curriculum development, Student Learning Outcomes assessment, and continuous program improvement.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration, student engagement, transfer initiatives, community partnerships, or dual enrollment programming.

Responsibilities

  • Teach introductory and transfer-level economics courses, including microeconomics and macroeconomics, in face-to-face, hybrid, online, and dual enrollment settings, as assigned.
  • Create engaging, inclusive, and student-centered learning environments that promote analytical reasoning, college readiness, transfer, and equitable student success.
  • Collaborate with local K–12 partners, dual enrollment staff, and College colleagues to strengthen college access, readiness, and successful transitions to higher education.
  • Employ culturally responsive, equity-minded, and evidence-based instructional practices that support the success of students from diverse academic, cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Assess student learning using meaningful and authentic assessment strategies and use assessment results to improve teaching, learning, and student success.
  • Participate in the development, evaluation, and revision of curriculum and Student Learning Outcomes in accordance with accreditation standards and disciplinary expectations.
  • Maintain regular office hours and provide academic mentoring and support that promote student persistence, transfer, completion, and lifelong learning.
  • Collaborate with faculty, classified professionals, administrators, and community partners to strengthen academic programs, interdisciplinary initiatives, and student success efforts.
  • Participate in division, college, and shared governance activities through committee service and other professional responsibilities appropriate to a full-time temporary faculty member.
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning to remain current in economics, pedagogy, instructional technology, and equity-minded teaching practices.
  • Support the College's mission, vision, and values through excellence in teaching, collaboration, innovation, and service to students and the campus community.
  • Perform other instructional and professional responsibilities consistent with the role of a full-time temporary faculty member.
