About The Position

The Economic Mobility Division focuses on connecting residents to the resources, education, and employment opportunities needed to achieve long-term stability and self-sufficiency. Through coordinated programs and partnerships, the division works to remove barriers and create clear pathways to economic advancement. Our approach is centered on outcomes, ensuring that residents are supported in making measurable progress. The Economic Mobility Division consists of MeckSuccess, MeckWorks, More Than A Job NC, Work First Employment Services, Work First Kinship Services and Quality and Training. The Economic Mobility Specialist serves as the first point of contact for residents seeking workforce development and economic mobility services through Mecklenburg County’s Economic Mobility Division. This position conducts an initial intake and front-end screening to identify the resident's reason for seeking services and routes individuals to the appropriate Economic Mobility Division Staff, or workforce partner for comprehensive assessment and service delivery. The Economic Mobility Specialist provides information regarding Economic Mobility Division programs, utilizes established intake protocols to route residents to the appropriate Economic Mobility Division program or partner, and connects residents to community resources that support employment, education, financial stability, and long-term economic mobility. The Specialist works collaboratively with internal staff, employers, educational institutions, workforce agencies, and community partners to ensure residents receive coordinated services that promote successful employment outcomes. This is a part-time position with a flexible work schedule. The position is located at the Ella B. Scarborough.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four years of administrative experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted: Yes

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in workforce development, human services, social services, case management, or community resource navigation.
  • Experience conducting participant intake and referrals.
  • Knowledge of workforce development programs and community resources throughout Mecklenburg County.
  • Experience using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems to document participant interactions, referrals, and service delivery.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • Experience entering and maintaining accurate participant records while ensuring confidentiality.
  • Bilingual proficiency is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for residents seeking workforce development and economic mobility services.
  • Conduct an initial intake conversation to identify the resident's service needs and reason for seeking workforce or economic mobility services.
  • Route residents to the appropriate Economic Mobility Division Program Specialist or Social Worker using established intake protocols and referral guidelines.
  • Coordinate warm handoffs to the appropriate Economic Mobility Division Program Specialist or Social Worker.
  • Facilitate referrals to external community partners in accordance with established referral procedures and program guidance.
  • Educate residents on available workforce development programs, career pathways, training opportunities, and community resources.
  • Develop and maintain working knowledge of workforce development programs, community resources, employer initiatives, and supportive service networks.
  • Maintain accurate intake documentation, customer interactions, and referral records within division databases and customer management systems.
  • Participate in outreach activities, hiring events, resource fairs, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and cultural responsiveness.
