About The Position

The National Partnership for Women & Families is a nonprofit, nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization that fights for equity for all women and families. We’re passionate about making change on big issues such as equal pay for all women, paid leave for working families and access to affordable health care that provides abortion and reproductive care. We advocate on the Hill and for federal, state and local policy. We are seeking an Economic Justice Advocacy Intern to join our Economic Justice team. The internship runs from September to early December and operates in a hybrid in-person office environment in Washington, DC. In this role, you will develop skills needed for work in the policy and advocacy world, including legislative and policy research, analysis, writing for a variety of audiences, and coalition-building. The Economic Justice Advocacy Intern will work on challenging projects across the National Partnership's economic justice policy agenda, including paid family and medical leave, paid sick days, fair pay, occupational segregation, pregnancy discrimination and sexual harassment.

Requirements

  • Strong writing, communication, and computer skills.
  • Research experience of some kind in an academic or professional setting. This could include literature reviews, legal research, policy research, or other types of research.
  • Highly organized, attentive to detail, and able to manage multiple tasks for different projects.
  • A commitment to gender and equity, economic justice, and the Partnership’s mission of improving the lives of women and families by achieving equality and equity for all women
  • An understanding of how poverty and racial justice intersect with the Partnership's key issue areas.
  • Seeking a learning opportunity in policy research and advocacy.
  • Must be at least a senior in college as of Fall 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Track relevant issues such as paid family and medical leave, paid sick days, fair pay, pregnancy discrimination and sexual harassment
  • Conduct research on topics of interest related to our work
  • Contribute to fact sheets and policy products, including by fact checking and proofreading
  • Attend briefings, hearings and other events around DC and virtually
  • Contribute to team meetings and events
