About The Position

The City of Golden is seeking an Economic Development Specialist to assist with administering economic development policies and programs. This role participates in the implementation of community-wide economic and redevelopment programs for the Economic Development Commission (EDComm), Golden Downtown Development Authority (DDA), and Golden Urban Renewal Authority (GURA). The position also assists with the Public Art Commission as needed. The specialist will research policy issues, collect data on businesses and trends, prepare meeting materials and reports, and manage online content for various commissions and authorities. Key responsibilities include supporting business retention and attraction efforts, coordinating with city programs, implementing the EDComm work plan, fostering partnerships with regional and state economic development entities, and managing DDA and GURA budgets and projects. The role involves regular contact with the business community and partner organizations, assisting with community marketing programs, and evaluating redevelopment agreements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Urban Planning, Economic Development, Marketing, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years marketing, public relations, or economic development experience promoting businesses.
  • In-depth knowledge of business and marketing principles and strategies.
  • Strong marketing and public relation skills.
  • Strong knowledge of the City of Golden business and cultural community preferred.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with little direct supervision.
  • Excellent organization and administrative skills.
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to deal with diverse population groups.
  • Ability to present information in a pleasant, helpful, and enthusiastic manner.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of personnel within the City, external clients, business prospects, partner organizations, and the general public in a positive and cooperative manner.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and interpret City of Golden policies and procedures, market data and relevant programs.

  • Ability to communicate the department’s philosophy, programs, and services to customers.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals for preparation of accounts payable, timesheets and basic budget preparation.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs for the ability to interpret marketing data and trends.
  • Ability to understand and manage assigned annual budget.
  • Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with practical problems involving a variety of concrete variables where limited standardization may exist.

Responsibilities

  • Researches policy issues and collects data on Golden businesses and trends.
  • Prepares meeting materials, contracts, and annual reports.
  • Creates and updates webpages, communications, and social media for economic development, EDComm, GURA, DDA, and PAC.
  • Assists with direct business retention and attraction efforts.
  • Coordinates with other City economic development, sustainability, public art, and healthy communities programs.
  • Assists with the implementation of the EDComm work plan, including workforce development and entrepreneurship/innovation initiatives.
  • Coordinates with regional and state economic development partners to connect Golden businesses to financial incentives and other programs.
  • Develops partnerships among the DDA, GURA, Visit Golden, the PAC, and other community organizations.
  • Reorganizes and updates contracts, funding applications, and partnership strategies.
  • Assists with the management and administration of the DDA and GURA, including meeting preparation, record keeping, budget updates, and fiscal controls.
  • Assists in preparing annual budget materials for the DDA/GURA.
  • Assists with the management and coordination of DDA programs and projects.
  • Assists with DDA and GURA redevelopment projects and public infrastructure investments.
  • Maintains regular contact with the general Golden business community, EDComm community partners, GURA, DDA, Visit Golden, Chamber of Commerce, and other related agencies.
  • Assists with the “Visit Golden” community marketing program and promotes the DDA area.
  • Promotes and supports downtown area events sponsored by others.
  • Assists in the evaluation and presentation of potential redevelopment agreements to the DDA/GURA.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
