About The Position

The City of Springfield is seeking applicants for an Economic Development Officer within the Office of Planning and Economic Development. This role is responsible for coordinating economic development programs, managing contracts, securing financing, and conducting research and analysis. The position involves reviewing applications for various economic development programs, overseeing the enterprise zone program, and managing the Historic Sites Commission. The officer will also monitor contracts and expenditures to ensure programs remain within budget.

Requirements

  • Knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college with courses in public or business administration.
  • One year experience in economic development.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Current City employees must have completed their probationary period and attained certified status in their current position to be eligible to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate economic development programs for the city.
  • Monitor contracts and agreements.
  • Obtain financing.
  • Conduct special research and analysis projects.
  • Compile necessary application material for rehabilitation projects under consideration for financial assistance.
  • Review applications for all economic development programs including rehabilitation, business, historic properties and make recommendations to management.
  • Coordinate activities of enterprise zone program to ensure compliance with State and City statutes.
  • Prepare status reports and represent the City before community groups.
  • Oversee Historic Sites Commission.
  • Monitor contracts and agreements relating to economic development activities which involve payments or financial calculations.
  • Monitor expenditures ensuring programs are kept within established limits.
