About The Position

The Department of Economic Development is seeking to add an Economic Development Consultant I position to our team. The position will assist with the Department's administration of federal and state housing and community development programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline related to the work assigned.
  • Experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis.
  • Ability to understand and interpret state and federal regulations pertaining to federally funded programs.
  • Experience in grant management, financial document review, accounting principles, practices, methods and procedures.
  • Must be able to present a valid driver's license or another form of reliable transportation.
  • Regular and Reliable attendance is required.

  • Knowledge of community development theory and practice.
  • Knowledge of available funding sources.
  • Possesses a basic working knowledge of state an federal economic development programs.
  • Skill in persuading others to adopt programs.
  • Skill in communicating with diverse audiences and presenting information to groups or individuals telephonically, electronically, on paper and/or in person.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations.
  • Ability to determine effective research methods/processes and sources.
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare reports.
  • Ability to interact with and gain the cooperation of community leader, other employees, and the public and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to relate well with a divers number of individuals or organizations.
  • Ability to analyze a community's present situation and recommend programs to achieve desired results.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with real estate development.
  • Experience with federal and/or state grant program administration including strategy, planning, program design, program management, data analysis, monitoring and compliance, and/or financial and grants management.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers and compiles data for use in quarterly reports for federal programs.
  • Accepts and processes reimbursements for grant programs.
  • Provides communities and organizations with information relating to community problems, potentials and the development assistance programs available for their use.
  • Consults communities in the of local development programs in the area of industrial, tourism and community development.
  • Provides input to program applications and guidelines.
  • Travel may be required for meetings, trainings or project inspections.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of the job classification.
