About The Position

The Ecology Center at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette invites applications for the position of Operations Coordinator. The candidate will work at the Ecology Center (703 Thoroughbred Dr, Lafayette, LA 70507) with the Director and Operations Manager to maintain a 50-acre facility that houses irrigated agricultural fields (~30 acres), greenhouses, shade houses, and a dry and wet lab used to support the university’s research, education, and public outreach activities. The preferred candidate will be able to apply their skills to a diverse suite of tasks daily and work well independently and with a team.

Requirements

• Bachelors of Science
• Proficiency operating commercial farm equipment including tractors and zero-turn mowers
• Towing and operating small boats (<30 ft), including airboats
• Basic carpentry and plumbing skills
• Knowledge of Louisiana’s native, flowering plants
• High degree of organization
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to manage a variety of tasks, environments and dynamic schedule

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience using commercial farm equipment including tractors and zero-turn mowers
• Previous experience towing and operating small boats (<30 ft), including airboats
• Previous basic carpentry and plumbing skills
• Knowledge of Louisiana’s native, flowering plants

Responsibilities

• Maintain Ecology Center’s research fields, greenhouse, and facilities
• Tow and operate small (<30ft) boats in local rivers, estuary, and coastal waters
• Construct infrastructure for diverse research projects
• Assist the Operations Manager with harvesting native flowering plant seeds
• Perform physical labor (i.e., must be able to carry 50 lbs. up a 15-ft ladder)
