About The Position

SLR Consulting (Canada) is seeking a full-time Ecologist to join their Kamloops, BC office. This role is crucial in supporting the company's goal of 'Making Sustainability Happen' by contributing to environmental and sustainability services. The Ecologist will work on a team focused on integrating various disciplines to address complex sustainability challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in ecology, biology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Working toward full RPBio status.
  • 5+ years experience with field sampling and assessment methods.
  • Knowledge of BC species and ecosystems.
  • Availability and flexibility to travel for fieldwork.
  • Wilderness/backcountry experience; comfortable working in a remote field environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of provincial and federal environmental regulations.
  • Proven project management experience, including scope, budget, schedule, and team coordination.
  • Excellent communication, technical writing, and client relationship skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Word and Excel, managing large datasets, and conducting analyses using R or other statistical software.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License in BC (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Support monitoring programs, environmental assessments, and permitting related to aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem components.
  • Conduct field work including environmental sampling and assessments, which may involve local and remote travel for up to two weeks or more at a time.
  • Plan and lead field programs using recognized protocols, including baseline environmental assessments, environmental overviews, environmental management planning, and species inventories, often in remote locations.
  • Mentor junior staff and field teams through technical guidance, review, and coaching, while promoting safe, efficient, and high-quality field programs.
  • Liaise between senior team members, clients, and stakeholders to ensure compliance and project objectives are met.
  • Perform environmental data entry, management, analysis, and report writing.
  • Assist in preparing baseline reports, environmental assessments, and environmental management plans that meet regulatory and client expectations.
