The SLCH ECMO team is composed of approximately 70 ECMO specialists across multiple pediatric critical care environments. The Mechanical Assist team includes: Advanced ECLS (Extracorporeal Life Support) Specialists (AES), who function in a charge nurse and clinical leadership capacity by facilitating education, responding to emergencies, assisting perfusionists with procedures, and supporting patient transports. The MAFT (Mechanical Assist Float Team), a specialized group of ECMO/AKRT-trained clinicians who care for patients requiring advanced mechanical support within the ICUs. Unit-based ECMO specialists from the Heart Center, PICU, and NICU who are trained on either ECMO or AKRT or both modalities to support safe, evidence-based patient care.
