About The Position

Vighter is recruiting multiple Echocardiograph Technologists (Echo Techs or Sonographers) to provide patient care support at the Audie L. Murphy VAMC in San Antonio, TX and surrounding clinics. Echo Techs are responsible for the direct and indirect care of patients to ensure that the quality of the studies adhere to established standards. Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of diagnostic cardiac ultrasound techniques and echocardiography procedures is required.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability to perform two-dimensional echocardiography, contrast ultrasound, and bubble studies.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability to perform pulsed-wave and continuous-wave Doppler studies.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability to perform transesophageal echocardiography, exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography.
  • Knowledge of echocardiography equipment, instrumentation, standard testing protocols and common equipment settings.
  • Knowledge of typical patient reactions and signs of clinical distress during cardiac diagnostic procedures.
  • Ability to recognize, report, and appropriately respond to potentially lethal arrhythmias.
  • Knowledge of common imaging errors, artifacts, equipment issues, and appropriate corrective actions.
  • Adjust equipment settings, imaging techniques, procedures, and patient positioning to obtain diagnostically acceptable results.
  • Modify examination techniques for patients with complicating conditions, including amputations, Parkinson’s disease, structural abnormalities, scar tissue, or other physical limitations.
  • Identify common technical errors, artifacts, or equipment-related issues and implement appropriate corrective measures.
  • Must have exceptional customer service skills.
  • Employees shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the job requirements, including ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment with limited supervision
  • Excellent organizational, scheduling and prioritization skills.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in echocardiography specialty is required.
  • All Certified Echocardiograph Technicians must have and maintain registration by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS).
  • Must have and maintain certification in Basic Life Support or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association.
  • Have and maintain a valid, unrestricted license in any state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S and/or certification as required.
  • Must be a Citizen of the United States or legally authorized to work in the United States of America.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic cardiac ultrasound examinations, including 111-mode, two-dimensional echocardiography, ultrasound contrast studies, and bubble studies.
  • Perform pulsed-wave and continuous-wave Doppler ultrasound to identify and characterize intracardiac blood-flow patterns.
  • Perform transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) examinations in accordance with established procedures.
  • Perform stress echocardiography utilizing exercise or pharmacologic stress protocols.
  • Operate echocardiography equipment and related instrumentation in accordance with standardized testing procedures.
  • Obtain accurate diagnostic images and measurements while recognizing arrhythmias, abnormalities, and atypical findings.
  • Monitor patients throughout diagnostic procedures for adverse reactions, changes in condition, or signs of distress.
  • Ability to recognize normal and abnormal cardiac findings, including arrhythmias and abnormal blood-flow patterns.
  • Recognize, report, and respond appropriately to potentially life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias.
  • Provide technical support and instruction on echocardiography equipment and related instrumentation to other non-VA Echocardiograph Technicians when requested.
  • Maintain technical proficiency and ongoing competency necessary to perform assigned services.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and healthcare team members while speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English fluently.
  • Complete all required VA education, clinical training, safety, privacy, security, and compliance requirements.
  • Performs other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
