About The Position

Under the direction of the supervisor of non-invasive cardiology, the echo team performs all echocardiograms to include 2D, M-Mode, color Doppler, pulse wave Doppler, continuous wave Doppler, transesophageal echocardiogram, stress echo and other related examinations according to established standards an practices at a high technical level. The role involves assuring proper patient identification and safety, maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, and demonstrating understanding of universal precautions and emergency procedures. Responsibilities include accurate record-keeping for billing, preparing echocardiographic worksheets, supporting quality assurance through data collection, and demonstrating the ability to work independently while maintaining positive professional relationships. The position requires sound knowledge in responding to STAT calls, prioritizing orders, and demonstrating technical proficiency in all echo procedures. Critical thinking skills are essential to assess patient conditions and provide additional views for cardiologist interpretation. The role also includes managing supplies within budget and participating in mandatory and continuing education. Patient preparation is a key duty, involving assessment of NPO status compliance, patient transport, equipment setup (electrodes, blood pressure cuff, EKG monitoring), remaining with the patient, offering assistance under RN direction, and maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality. Age-specific care is provided for children 12-18 years, adults 18-65 years, and adults 65+ years.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and/or GED
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers from American Heart Association required
  • RDCS (ARDMS) or RCS (CCI) required

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate from an associate degree echo program and/or an accredited echo training program preferred
  • Current American Heart Association ACLS preferred
  • Experience with equipment including Philips ie33 and EPIQ, TEE probes (to include the sterilization process), and Epic preferred
  • Typing and computer skills preferred
  • 1 year hospital experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs all echocardiograms to include 2D, M-Mode, color Doppler, pulse wave Doppler, continuous wave Doppler, transesophageal echocardiogram, stress echo and other related examinations.

  • Prepares echocardiographic worksheet for physicians review and interpretation.
  • Supports department Quality Assurance process through accurate, timely and complete data collection.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently and maintains positive professional relationships with peers, physicians and customers.
  • Is able to complete assignments independently, to work as a team and can take instruction from supervisors, patients and vendors and the public in a professional and pleasant manner.
  • Resolves conflict and utilize chain of command to help drive appropriate outcomes.
  • Demonstrates sound knowledge in response to STAT calls and demonstrates the ability to prioritize both STAT and routine orders.
  • Demonstrates technical proficiency in all echo procedures.
  • Can utilize critical thinking skills to assess the patient’s condition to provide any additional views that will assist the cardiologist in the care/treatment.
  • Manages supplies and forms within the budget.
  • Participates in required and continuing educations.
  • Attends or completes all mandatory facility and departmental education requirements.
  • Responsible for patient preparation to include assessing compliance with NPO status, patient transport, placement of electrodes, placement of blood pressure cuff, presence of IV access if needed, secures the use of EKG monitoring equipment, remains with patient at all times, offers assistance under the director of an RN, maintains patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
