About The Position

The Echo Tech provides cardiopulmonary diagnostic services to patients and facilitates patient care through timely reports to physicians, adhering to Hospital and Departmental mission statements, policies, and procedures. This role involves demonstrating proficiency in performing various adult and pediatric echocardiograms, including 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, Doppler, Transesophageal, and Stress Echocardiograms, as requested by physicians and in accordance with standard practices. The technician utilizes independent judgment for real-time and off-line manipulation of echocardiographic images for capture, display, and analysis of data. Responsibilities also include analyzing patient medical records for history and information relevant to procedures, preparing preliminary reports for cardiologists, ensuring ICAEL requirements are met and maintained, contributing to ICAEL application processes, and processing patient billing. The Echo Tech must use common sense and medical skills considering patient age, diagnosis, and physical abilities, directly interacting with patients and physicians, and promoting a patient safety-focused environment.

Requirements

  • Two-year Allied Health degree in Ultrasound Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, or equivalent education.
  • Registration or Certification by one of the following authorities is required within one year of employment: American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS).

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years minimum work experienced preferred, but new graduates will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Follow Departmental, Hospital and Human Resources Policy & Procedures.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in performing adult and pediatric echocardiograms, including but not limited to 2-dimensional, 3- dimensional, Doppler, Transesophageal, and Stress Echocardiogram, as requested by physician and in accordance with standard practices.
  • Utilize independent judgment, with real-time and off-line manipulation of Echocardiographic images for capture, display and analysis of echocardiography data.
  • Analyze patient medical record to obtain history of symptoms and necessary information for performance of diagnostic procedures asking of questions relevant to testing or procedure to be performed.
  • Prepare preliminary reports for review and interpretation by Cardiologist, including comparison of previous studies.
  • Ensure ICAEL requirements are met and maintained: CMEs, policies and procedures, protocols, etc. are updated annually.
  • Contribute to organizing and preparing ICAEL application to maintain an accredited status.
  • Process patient billing per established procedure.
  • Use common sense and special medical skills with regard to patient age, diagnosis and physical abilities.
  • Directly interact with the patient and physician in receipt, review, scanning and reporting of Echocardiograms.
  • Promote an environment that focuses on patient safety.
