About The Position

The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in creating a safe and developmentally appropriate learning environment that promotes the growth and development of preschool children. This position assists with classroom instruction, child supervision, family engagement, documentation, and daily program operations while maintaining compliance with ECEAP performance standards and agency requirements. The Assistant Teacher collaborates with staff and families to support positive child outcomes and the overall success of the program.

Requirements

  • Equivalent of 12 college quarter credits in Early Childhood Education.
  • DCYF Equivalent.
  • Completion of Child Care Basics Training or equivalency.
  • A current Infant, Child, and Adult First Aid/CPR Certification (obtain within 30 days of employment or prior to first workday, whichever comes sooner).
  • HIV/AIDS and Blood-Borne Pathogens Training (obtain within 30 days of employment or prior to first workday, whichever comes sooner).
  • Washington State Patrol/MERIT Background Check (obtain within 30 days of employment or prior to first workday, whichever comes sooner).
  • Hepatitis B Vaccination (optional)
  • TB Test (obtain within 30 days of employment or prior to first workday, whichever comes sooner).
  • MMR Immunization or Immunity Proof (obtain within 30 days of employment or prior to first workday, whichever comes sooner).
  • Food Handler’s Card (obtain within 30 days of employment or prior to first workday, whichever comes sooner).

  • All persons serving in the role of ECEAP Assistant Teacher must meet one of the following qualifications, or begin and complete a Professional Development Plan (PDP):

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and interacts with children to extend their learning.
  • Facilitates small group activities.
  • Models appropriate and professional practice aligned with ECEAP performance standards.
  • Assists with record keeping related to attendance, meal counts, parent contact hours, accidents, illnesses, and emergency drills.
  • Records child observations and assists with child assessments as needed.
  • Participates in home visits and parent-teacher conferences when appropriate.
  • Plans, implements, and attends parent/family events, activities, and meetings.
  • Actively participates in all site-based, county, and agency meetings and in-service trainings.
  • Performs classroom and program housekeeping tasks.
  • Translates written and verbal information to children, parents and staff when applicable.
  • Perform other tasks as directed.
