About The Position

The ECE Teacher position is responsible for the daily health, safety, supervision and curriculum instruction of children enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program. This position coordinates and implements all daily activities designed to increase the social and cognitive abilities of children enrolled in the program. Teachers will regularly assess student progress toward meeting developmental milestones, and identify appropriate strategies for improving student achievement.

Requirements

  • High Diploma or GED required
  • Must be highly knowledgeable of best practices in Early Childhood Education child development theory
  • Possess ability to write and speak clearly and informatively
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Ability to recognize and record significant individual and group behavior and/or changes
  • Must be able to communicate important messages and learning themes to children and parents
  • Knowledge of minimum standards of care and Education for developmental needs of children
  • Customer service oriented
  • Able to effectively manage difficult or emotional client situations
  • Able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
  • Seek to understand, communicate appropriately and effectively, build a positive, professional rapport with all clients and staff

Nice To Haves

  • Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential preferred
  • Associates’ degree (A.A. or A.S.) preferred
  • Experience preferred working with Early Childhood Education and/or Child Development programs
  • Bilingual, Spanish-speaking preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate age appropriate activities for children necessary to produce positive learning outcomes
  • Present learning materials in an engaging manner that stimulates the furthering of child development
  • Prepare educational materials required to effectively implement early childhood curriculum
  • Review all regulatory program standards and guidelines to ensure program compliance
  • Maintain safe and nurturing classroom environment conducive to appropriate child development
  • Observe, record, and report significant individual and group behavior(s)
  • Communicate regularly the developmental needs of enrolled children to parents, as well as instructional development plan for each child
  • Attend required training and professional development opportunities
  • Supervise group field trips as assigned
  • Provide classroom coverage for absent staff to implement classroom activities
  • Administer first aid to children requiring immediate medical attention
  • Assists other ECE teachers and staff for the purpose of supporting completion of department goals
  • Support through word and action the Wesley Community Center’s Mission statement and the mission’s core values of integrity, excellence and commitment through completion of other duties as needed and assigned
