S/N ECE Child Care Assistant (SS-49291)
About The Position
This is a non-exempt, short notice, on-call position where applicants must be prepared to report to work within one hour of receiving notification. The role provides supervised direct care to infant-to-preschool aged children and assistance at a center-based child care facility. It involves implementing age-appropriate, child-centered development and functioning exercises for a preschool-aged child care program, which may include parenting education on occasion. Incumbents assigned to infant and preschool environments will be required to complete 30 credit hours of Basics of Child Care and HIV/Blood borne pathogens, Safe Sleep, and Food Handlers training after hire.
Requirements
- Requires the equivalent of a high school diploma or proof of enrollment in High School.
- Basic knowledge of child guidance principles and practices.
- Understanding of the goals and objectives of a preschool aged child care program in a school district environment.
- Working knowledge of learning exercises and approaches appropriate for student parents.
- Working knowledge of the needs and behavior of preschool aged children.
- Working knowledge of proper sanitizing and sterilization methods, as well as cleaning materials and disinfectants.
- Sufficient human relations skills to interact with student parents, parents of students, and staff.
- Ability to perform the essential responsibilities and work tasks of the position.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret a teacher’s instructions to assist in instruction-oriented recreation activities of infant children.
- Ability to understand the needs and differences of children and to reach and engage them in play.
- Ability to balance emotional support and discipline to deal with behavior problems in children.
- Ability to perform indoors in an office and/or classroom environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary to a moderately active nature.
- Near visual acuity to read and write printed materials and computer screens.
- Hearing and speech ability for ordinary and telephonic conversation, to speak to small groups, and to hear sound prompts from equipment.
- Ability to move about office, classroom, and school grounds, and reach work materials.
- Sufficient manual and finger dexterity to demonstrate teaching aids, to point out important words/figures to students, and to operate personal computers.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and move supplies, furniture, etc., of light-to-medium weight (under 50 pounds) on an intermittent basis.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance.
- Tribal Member and Indian Preference will apply.
- Preference will also be given to honorably discharged veterans who are minimally qualified.
