Reporting to the Superintendent, the Earthworks Foreman is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of crews, equipment, and work activities related to bulk earthworks, grading, excavation, and site development. This role plays a critical part in ensuring work is completed safely, productively, and in compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and company expectations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of heavy civil construction, with direct experience in earthworks and site development
  • 3+ experience as a Foreman overseeing earthworks crews
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
  • Strong understanding of grading, compaction requirements, soils and earthworks production methods
  • Willing to travel and work out of town for short, fixed-term periods, as needed
  • Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing and Fit for Work Testing will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
  • Lead, supervise, and mentor earthworks crews to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of work
  • Plan and coordinate daily work activities, manpower, equipment, and materials to meet production targets and schedules
  • Oversee earthworks operations including stripping, excavation, grading, embankment construction, backfilling, and compaction
  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with drawings, specifications, grade tolerances, and QA/QC requirements
  • Coordinate equipment usage including excavators, dozers, graders, loaders, compactors, and haul trucks to maximize productivity
  • Conduct daily tailgate meetings, hazard assessments, and ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate with Superintendents, Project Managers, surveyors, inspectors, and subcontractors to resolve field issues and maintain project progress
  • Monitor productivity and quality, identifying and addressing issues that could impact schedule, cost, or safety
  • Ensure proper use, care, and basic maintenance of tools, equipment, and company assets
  • Maintain accurate daily records including timesheets, production tracking, quantities, and site documentation
  • Lead by example in professionalism, accountability, and respect, fostering a positive and engaged crew culture
