Position Summary We are seeking an Earthwork GPS Specialist to support both office and field operations within our Heavy Civil Construction team. This position will assist with earthwork modeling, plan takeoffs, GPS setup and troubleshooting, drone-data integration, and ongoing GPS-related support for field crews. The ideal candidate is technically minded, detail-oriented, and comfortable moving between office-based modeling work and active construction sites. This person should be a strong communicator, enjoy working as part of a team, and be able to switch between priorities quickly and efficiently.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience in heavy civil construction, earthwork, surveying, estimating, GPS technology and modeling.
  • Experience with AGTEK, AutoCAD, Trimble Office, Topcon software, or similar earthwork and modeling programs.
  • Experience working with GPS systems, rovers, total stations, machine-control systems, or similar construction technology.
  • Ability to read and understand civil construction drawings, grading plans, utility plans, site plans, footing and foundation plans, and structural drawings.
  • Understanding of elevations, contours, slopes, surface models, and earthwork operations.
  • Strong computer and technical troubleshooting skills.
  • High level of verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and transition between tasks quickly and efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Clean driving record and valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with earthwork plan takeoffs and the development of earthwork models.
  • Review and interpret civil construction plans, including grading, utility, site, footing, foundation, and structural plans.
  • Understand and work with elevations, contours, slopes, and surface designs.
  • Support the setup and operation of GPS systems for field crews and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot GPS equipment, software, and field connectivity issues.
  • Provide ongoing support for GPS-related functions across active projects.
  • Integrate drone data into earthwork models and project information.
  • Compare surface designs with survey stakes, field conditions, and engineered designs.
  • Assist with verifying model accuracy and identifying discrepancies between design information and field conditions.
  • Coordinate with field crews, project teams, surveyors, engineers, and other departments as needed.
  • Maintain organized project files, models, revisions, and GPS-related information.
  • Travel to jobsites as needed to support field operations.
