About The Position

WSP is seeking an Early Professional Project Controls to join our growing team in Mississauga, Ontario. This role is ideal for a motivated early-career professional who is eager to develop a strong foundation in project financial management, cost control, and project performance within a collaborative engineering and consulting environment.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets, including pivot tables, lookups, and dashboard development
  • Foundational understanding of cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and project performance concepts
  • Exposure to project controls, engineering, construction, finance, or similar project-based environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with high attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced project environment
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial data to non-financial stakeholders
  • Ability to handle sensitive financial information with professionalism and confidentiality

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with earned value management (EVM) concepts
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle
  • Knowledge of scheduling tools (Primavera P6 or MS Project) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and track project costs against approved budgets and forecasts to support effective project financial oversight.
  • Analyze cost variances, including cost to completion (EAC/ETC), margins, and cost overruns, and provide insights to project teams.
  • Prepare and deliver regular cost reports, dashboards, and financial summaries using system-generated project data.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes throughout the project lifecycle, with a focus on identifying projects at financial risk.
  • Maintain project cost trackers, change logs, and financial documentation with strong attention to accuracy and version control.
  • Assist with change order management and cost impact analysis in collaboration with project managers.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to improve cost efficiency, reporting quality, and financial transparency.
