About The Position

This position will function as a part of the network of assistance for students and families in Norfolk Public Schools including Preschool, Title I, McKinney Vento (MKV) and Foster Care. This position supports wraparound services through the Family Welcome and Wellness Center, International Welcome Center, community partners and schools. The position supports communication and activities across all stakeholders to ensure outside of school resources are provided to all families and students in Preschool, Title I designated schools, and McKinney Vento.

Requirements

  • Some knowledge of Preschool, McKinney Vento, Foster Care, and Title I programs in Virginia.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and a sense of culture/community with school staff, parents, guardians, families, and community partners/agencies.
  • Ability to create PowerPoint presentations with little to no assistance.
  • Ability to create graphs and other visualizations using Excel or other applications.
  • Some experience using or managing assessment applications.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and meet deadlines for all projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Schoolnet and/or Canvas strongly desired.
  • Experience with Microsoft Access desired but not required. If no experience, then verifiable, successful completion of training (at Norfolk Public Schools’ expense) is required within six months in start date in the position.
  • preferred prior experience working with children and families, providing behavioral or mental health support or wraparound services desired.

Responsibilities

  • Keeps abreast of all federal and state guidelines related to Preschool, Title I, MKV and Foster Care
  • Attends all meetings with VDOE related to MKV and Title I
  • Assists the Title I Coordinator with compliance documents for MKV
  • Coordinates and collaborates with Early Learning, MKV, Foster Care and Title I staff on a regular basis
  • Utilizes Onflo and other platforms to document services and communication
  • Assists with professional development for school-level staff
  • Assists with communication to school-level staff
  • Works to connect families to intra-district resources as well as community agencies and support, such as NPS Adult Ed and pre-school programs, ForKids , Union Mission, YMCA, Salvation Army, Community Services’ Board , Norfolk Dept. of Health and Human Services , and the Hispanic Resource Center
  • Assists Family Engagement Specialists to monitor and report out community activities conducted in school buildings.
  • Reviews and approves or denies McKinney Vento applications
  • Reviews monthly reports of students identified as McKinney Vento
  • Reviews weekly attendance of students identified as McKinney Vento and alerts division and school level staff of needs
  • Facilitates and participates in Best Interest Determination (BID) meetings
  • Reviews reports on Best Interest Determination (BID) meetings held for students receiving McKinney Vento and Foster Care services and provides feedback to division leadership
  • Serves as a liaison between student, home, school, and community resources such as family resource agencies
  • Assists with coordinating services for students experiencing homelessness including transportation and food
  • Assists with warehouse deliveries and organization for Title I, M c K inney V ento , Foster Care, and Preschool resources
  • Assists with preparing and submitting orders for supplies for the Family Welcome and Wellness Center
  • Engages directly with the community to ensure collaboration with other city entities to support students
  • Supports with the delivery of resources to outside partners such as WIC and the Health Department
  • Supports the use of the MKV van program to ensure resources are delivered in a timely manner and coordinates the communication with the Transportation Department
  • Assists with Family Engagement data and organization of the program alongside Title I Family Engagement Specialists
  • Organizes and implements the function of the Family Welcome and Wellness Center to include training, calendars and inventory
  • Creates, organizes, implements and evaluates Family Engagement Events at the Family Welcome and Wellness Center
  • Assists with McKinney Vento organization, processes, implementation and review, including case management
  • Collaborates with Curriculum & Instruction, Student Wellness, and Student Support Services
  • Serves as a backup driver for the vans and cars that support the Title I and MKV programs
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Early Learning and Title I and/or Title I Coordinator of Instruction or other appropriate administrators
