About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Early Learning Center Director at the Malden YMCA oversees the development and operations of the childcare program, while ensuring the program meets its intended goals. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for creating a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and high-quality early learning environment while managing the people, programs, operations, enrollment, licensing, and resources necessary for the Center's success. They provide a quality experience for children ages 2.9 to 5 years of age and their guardians that focuses on the YMCA values: caring, honest, respect and responsibility. Program capacity is 70 children.

Requirements

  • Meets educational and experience qualifications established by EEC. Director’s License required.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and build a strong team.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Passes a CORI, SORI and DCF background record check.
  • Meets all other requirement of the Mystic Valley YMCA for employment

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day operation of the Early Learning Center, ensuring a safe, nurturing, inclusive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for every child.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and continuously improve an early childhood curriculum that supports children's social-emotional, cognitive, physical, language, and creative development.
  • Ensure teachers conduct ongoing developmental observations and assessments and use the information to individualize learning experiences and support each child's development.
  • Monitor classroom quality through regular observation, coaching, feedback, and direct involvement with children and staff.
  • Maintain an environment that recognizes individual needs, abilities, cultures, family backgrounds, and diverse learning styles.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, train, schedule, supervise, coach, recognize, and evaluate teachers and program staff.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing patterns are maintained and that staff qualifications, assignments, ratios, and supervision practices comply with current EEC requirements.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and provide ongoing coaching and professional development.
  • Maintain required EEC records, policies, plans, inspections, documentation, and program information and ensure readiness for licensing visits and renewals.
  • Ensure required emergency, health, safety, medication, incident-reporting, child protection, and evacuation procedures are consistently followed.
  • Ensure staff maintain required credentials, background checks, health and safety training, and other documentation.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact with EEC and coordinate licensing visits, corrective actions, documentation, and follow-up as necessary.
