About The Position

The Early Head Start Manager will aid the Head Start Director in general program management for the Early Head Start (EHS) site. This role involves coaching, mentoring, supervising, and training all EHS staff. Responsibilities include short-term and long-range planning for service delivery and training, acting as an integrator of components such as ERSEA, health, mental health, nutrition, education, disabilities, and family and community partnerships. The manager will also function as a liaison and information conduit between Tribal Leadership and community collaborators, ensuring compliance with Federal Head Start Performance Standards and agency policies.

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, Human Services, or a related field
  • Two (2) years progressively responsible professional experience which demonstrates significant supervisory and administrative responsibilities and a strong knowledge of theories and practices of Early Childhood Education/Development with particular focus on prenatal care and infant/toddler development.
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must possess a Valid Alaska Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and develop Early Head Start staff.
  • Assist the Head Start Director with preparing and submitting the Early Head Start grant.
  • Assist the Head Start Director with continuous monitoring of the Early Head Start center’s compliance with Head Start component requirements.
  • Assist the Head Start Director with preparing and submitting required Early Head Start reports.
  • Assist Human Resources in the hiring process for Early Head Start center employees and substitutes.
  • Monitor performance, attendance, certifications, timecards, and required documents for EHS employees.
  • Communicate areas of performance improvement to EHS employees and promote training that reflects individual needs.
  • Document and administer feedback, utilizing Performance Improvement Plans when warranted, and ensure documentation is forwarded to Human Resources.
  • Conduct performance evaluations utilizing Tlingit and Haida forms.
  • Ensure EHS staff have an annual staff development plan and make progress towards educational requirements.
  • Arrange and facilitate regular meetings with staff for mandated training and policy updates.
  • Monitor, report, and provide feedback for all employee-related accidents.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and provide training for classroom volunteers.
  • Ensure EHS program complies with EHS performance standards and other grant requirements.
  • Attend case management meetings, consultations, and staff meetings as necessary.
  • Observe children and provide suggestions for behavior management and education programming.
  • Work with the Family and Community Partnerships Coordinator to ensure EHS staff receive necessary training and tools for home visits and parent activities.
  • Monitor and manage the Early Head Start center budget.
  • Work with the Head Start Coordination team to ensure EHS center services provide quality services in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Submit all center component paperwork, monthly reports, and status updates to Head Start Data.
  • Work in partnership with the Head Start Coordination team to arrange for services in all functional areas, utilizing internal and external resources.
  • Monitor and manage the maintenance and safety of facilities and availability of supplies.
  • Coordinate with local agencies, community service organizations, and educational providers.
  • Design and deliver training and formal presentations, providing information on the Early Head Start program to the community.
  • Participate in and assist with community recruitment events.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all communications.
