Early Fire Detection Sales Engineer (Remote – USA)

Teledyne Technologies IncorporatedUS - Field - Texas, TX
Remote

About The Position

Teledyne FLIR is expanding its Early Fire Detection (EFD) portfolio, which includes UL-listed thermal cameras that integrate directly into fire alarm control panels. This role is for an Application Engineer who will bridge the gap between thermal cameras, FACPs, and the integrator's sales team and technicians. The individual will serve as the primary technical contact for customers needing assistance with specifying, designing, wiring, and commissioning EFD systems. This is a hybrid technical and sales position, requiring close collaboration with the Sales Director and Regional Sales Managers. The core responsibilities include ensuring the technology functions effectively in the field, supporting the integrator channel, and relaying field insights back to Product Management. The ideal candidate will have a background in maintaining fire alarm systems and a desire to implement next-generation thermal detection technology.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in fire life safety technical support, applications engineering, or field commissioning, preferably with an FACP manufacturer (e.g., Notifier, Siemens, Honeywell, Bosch, Fike, Edwards) or a national integrator.
  • Hands-on experience commissioning fire alarm systems and troubleshooting FACP integration issues (SLC loops, relay logic, addressable devices, network modules).
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 72, UL 2684, 464, 864, and their interpretation by Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
  • NICET Level II or III certification in Fire Alarm Systems (Level III preferred).
  • Comfortable designing in Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and/or Revit.
  • Basic understanding of IP networking (IP addressing, VLANs, PoE) with a willingness to develop expertise in thermal/vision systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining technical issues to various audiences.
  • Willingness to travel up to 35% to customer sites, integrator locations, commissioning events, and trade shows.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote, collaborative, cross-functional team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with thermal imaging, video-based fire detection, or aspirating smoke detection.
  • Experience supporting fire protection applications in BESS, data centers, warehouses, or industrial settings.
  • Familiarity with IP cameras/VMS (ONVIF, RTSP, cloud-managed devices).
  • Prior involvement with NFPA technical committees, UL working groups, or code development.
  • Experience in curriculum design or Learning Management System (LMS) for integrator training programs.

Responsibilities

  • Join sales calls to address product application, code compliance (NFPA 72, UL 2684), and integration inquiries.
  • Recommend appropriate EFD SKUs, camera placement, camera layouts, and integration strategies for each sales opportunity.
  • Support quote and Bill of Materials (BOM) reviews to ensure technically sound configurations prior to order placement.
  • Develop and deliver product training programs (remote and on-site) to empower the fire protection industry to effectively design, sell, and install FLIR thermal fire detection systems.
  • Review integrator drawings using Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and/or Revit, providing application guidance on camera placement, coverage geometry, FACP zoning, and network topology.
  • Design thermal camera fire detection system layouts based on customer-provided drawings, managing the process from initial design reviews through full system commissioning.
  • Act as Tier 2/3 applications support for FLIR EFD products, responding to integrator and end-user questions regarding wiring, addressing, FACP integration, IP configuration, and commissioning.
  • Contribute to the internal knowledge base by documenting common failure modes, integration playbooks, and troubleshooting workflows.
  • Travel on-site (25-35%) for initial commissioning, integrator ride-alongs, and troubleshooting escalations.
  • Provide support for projects post-award, including acceptance testing and final handoff.
  • Relay installer feedback, RMA trends, and code interpretation questions to Product Management to influence the EFD product roadmap.
  • Monitor competitive activities and emerging standards related to thermal imaging in fire detection.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to develop your career with an international world-leading company in thermal and sensing technology.
  • Unique opportunity to experience how cutting-edge sensor technology and software come together in-house.
  • Friendly culture focused on collaboration, problem-solving, and creativity.
  • Work closely with Product Management, Business Development, and Application Support.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits.
