Early Education Teacher Assistant
About The Position
The Nativity School is seeking an Early Education Teacher Assistant to support the Lead Teacher with the school curriculum. This role involves overseeing outdoor activities, assisting with rest and lunchtime routines, preparing classroom materials, and providing aftercare coverage if needed. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, patient, nurturing, and treat children with dignity and respect, while also understanding their individual needs and backgrounds. The position requires participation in professional growth activities and assumes an equal share of housekeeping responsibilities.
Requirements
- 18 years or older
- Proof of high school diploma or GED
- Clear criminal background check (a clear Livescan for Community Care Licensing is a condition of employment)
- Experience teaching in an elementary school classroom
- Positive professional references and recommendations
- Passionate about working with young children and a desire to grow as an educator
- Team player, positive attitude and enthusiasm for the work
- Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred)
- Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy
Responsibilities
- Assist the Lead Teacher with school curriculum
- Oversee outdoor activities ensuring a safe environment for the children at all times
- Assist with rest time set up, take down and supervision
- Prepare materials and supplies for daily classroom activities and set up of equipment
- Cover for teacher lunches and breaks
- Provide children with support and care during lunchtime and rest time
- Aftercare coverage if needed
- Respect and honor the needs of the individual children with concern for their interests, special needs, talents, and individual style and pace of learning
- Understand children in relationship to their cultural and socioeconomic background
- Assume an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff after the children have either departed or are under the supervision of another teacher
- Participate in recommended training programs, conferences, courses and other aspects of professional growth
- Other duties as assigned
