About The Position

The Early Education Apprentice will gain structured training and knowledge of early childhood education through hands-on modeling of best practices, ongoing guidance, and encouragement of reflective teaching. This role involves working closely with a mentor teacher in an assigned classroom to build knowledge and skills in early childhood education, engaging in guided teaching experiences, and participating in reflective mentor and coaching sessions. The apprentice will also observe classroom instruction, engage in professional development and mandatory training, and demonstrate professionalism by seeking guidance, welcoming feedback, and actively participating in the learning process. The YWCA of Metropolitan St. Louis (YWCA) has been serving the community for more than 120 years, providing essential, wraparound services that support women and families throughout their time in our programs. Each year, YWCA serves approximately 10,000 women and their families, offering a multitude of services. YWCA is the largest provider of direct Head Start services in Missouri, operating 8 centers and 11 partner sites, and we are proud to hold the National Program of Excellence accreditation from the National Head Start Association.

Requirements

Working knowledge and understanding
Effectively communicate with mentor teachers and parents to enhance the learning experience
A high school diploma /GED and willing to obtain a CDA

Responsibilities

Work closely in assigned classroom with mentor teacher to build knowledge and skills in early childhood education.
Engage in guided teaching experiences to develop practical skills in early childhood education.
Engage in reflective mentor and coaching sessions to strengthen skills and improve early childhood education practices.
Observe classroom instruction and teaching practices to gain insight and support professional growth in early childhood education.
Engage in professional development, mandatory training, and classroom meetings to enhance skills through the mentoring experience.
Demonstrate professionalism by seeking guidance, welcoming feedback, and actively participating in the learning process.
Take all necessary steps to ensure the health and safety of children placed in teachers care.
