About The Position

This position will plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for the children on a weekly and daily basis. Incorporate into these plans any suggestions or goals for the child that are developed by any outside providers (Occupational, Speech, Physical Therapists, Horizon’s Child and Family Therapist, etc.).

Requirements

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for children weekly and daily.
  • Incorporate suggestions or goals from outside providers (Occupational, Speech, Physical Therapists, Horizon’s Child and Family Therapist, etc.) into lesson plans.
  • Comply with regulations of the NC Division of Child Development and Early Head Start.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures of the childcare center.
  • Follow administrative policies of the UNC Horizons Program and the childcare center.
  • Supervise and interact with children to ensure a safe, healthy, and nurturing learning environment.
  • Maintain the physical environment of the childcare center by discarding unsafe items and reporting hazards or replacement needs.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with parents.
  • Provide support, advice, and encouragement to parents regarding their child's development.
  • Conduct parent/teacher conferences.
  • Actively participate as a member of the UNC Horizons team and the childcare center team.
  • Attend UNC Horizons staff meetings, trainings, and conferences.
  • Attend Horizons Child Development Center events, meetings, and trainings.
  • Communicate questions and concerns appropriately with team members and supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Meet all regulations of the NC Division of Child Development, Early Head Start and the policies and procedures of the childcare center on a daily basis.
  • Comply with the administrative policies of the UNC Horizons Program and the childcare center.
  • Provide supervision of and interaction with the children in care to maintain a safe, healthy and nurturing learning environment.
  • Contribute to the maintaining of the childcare center’s physical environment by discarding any broken or dangerous items and informing supervisor of any health/safety hazards of the center’s physical environment or of items that need to be replaced.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with parents.
  • Offer support, advice, and encouragement to the parents regarding their child’s goals, accomplishments and overall well-being.
  • Conduct parent/teacher conferences to review any adjustment, behavior, progress, or other concerns.
  • Participate as an active and involved member of the UNC Horizons team as well as the childcare center team.
  • Regularly attend UNC Horizons staff meetings, trainings, annual conference, and other events.
  • Attend and actively participate in all Horizons Child Development Center specific events, meetings, and trainings.
  • Communicate questions and concerns regarding Horizons with other team members where appropriate and supervisors.
