About The Position

The Early Childhood Teacher Assistant I at the Early Learning Campus is responsible for assisting the instructional team in all areas of children's growth, including physical, social/emotional, cognitive, literacy, and math. This role requires demonstrating knowledge of child development, health, safety, and nutrition standards. The position involves exploring and implementing curriculum strategies and instructional designs that incorporate brain research and adaptations for special needs, always maintaining a learning attitude. A talent for working with young children, an appreciation for diverse family configurations and cultures, respect for families as the child's first teacher, and a willingness to partner with families are essential.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Cleared national background checks.
  • Cleared child abuse and neglect registry checks (completed through Division of Regulated Childcare).
  • Knowledge of child development.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and nutrition standards.
  • Ability to work as a partner with families.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to Kentucky Childcare Regulation requirements and USDA Food Program requirements.
  • Follow and support ELC policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Apply guidelines established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and support classroom self-assessment and improvement procedures.
  • Support the implementation of a curriculum consistent with the program's philosophy, including Reggio Emilia inspired activities, long-term projects, and research-based learning opportunities.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of child development and positive discipline practices.
  • Maintain and sanitize the classroom and materials in accordance with licensing requirements.
  • Prepare servings and engage with children during meals and snacks.
  • Help set up the classroom environment for emergent learning.
  • Report concerns about suspected child abuse/neglect and other pertinent issues to the Director.
  • Report injuries, program or curriculum concerns, and specific classroom needs to the Lead Facilitator.
  • Conduct daily interactions in a professional and positive manner, working cooperatively with co-workers.
  • Report reliably to work and return from breaks as scheduled.
  • Collaborate with University of Louisville departments for observation and research, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other local/state laws.
  • Complete a minimum of 15 hours of state-approved training annually and maintain current TB test documentation.
  • Teach children using daily interactions and routines.
  • Communicate with families in a supportive, professional, and respectful manner.
  • Apply class guidelines established by NAEYC.
  • Perform lead duties in the absence of the Lead Facilitator.
