About The Position

Fruitport Community Schools is seeking a dedicated professional to fill a dual role as an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher (Morning) at Shettler Elementary and a Special Education Resource Teacher (Afternoon) at Beach Elementary. This position requires a valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate special education endorsements and a commitment to following district and state curricula and assessment requirements. The ideal candidate will have experience in elementary special education, a strong understanding of current curriculum trends, and the ability to develop new curricular directions. Collaboration with staff, including ancillary staff and paraprofessionals, is essential. The role involves completing required paperwork such as IEPs, transition plans, and behavior intervention plans, as well as performing basic healthcare tasks with training. Proficiency or willingness to learn and utilize technology as an instructional tool is expected, along with the ability to implement cooperative learning and higher-order thinking skills. A desire to develop an interdisciplinary approach to instruction and adherence to all district policies are also key components of this position.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Michigan teaching certificate, or be eligible for Michigan certification based on an out-of-state teaching certificate
  • Meet state requirements for at least one appropriate special education endorsement
  • Recent elementary special education teaching experience required

  • Additional endorsements (ZA, ZS)
  • Experience working in early childhood settings
  • Temporary approval may be available for a certified teacher who is willing to enroll in an approved program leading to the required special education endorsement.

Responsibilities

  • Must follow district and state curricula and assessment requirements
  • Must have satisfactory rating in most recent performance evaluation (formal or informal)
  • Knowledge of current curriculum trends and ability to write and develop new curricular direction in varied subject areas
  • Commitment to work effectively with fellow staff members, including ancillary staff and paraprofessionals
  • Recent elementary special education teaching experience required
  • Complete and submit all required paperwork, i.e., IEP’s, transition plans, Medicaid billings, behavior intervention plans, etc.
  • Perform basic healthcare tasks such as toileting, tube feeding, etc. with appropriate training
  • Knowledge of technology as instruction tools or willingness to become knowledgeable through independent training as soon as possible and commitment to use same regularly to enhance instruction effectiveness
  • Knowledge of, and ability to implement cooperative learning strategies on a regular basis
  • Knowledge of an ability to implement higher order thinking skill development on a regular basis
  • Desire to develop an interdisciplinary approach to delivering instructional outcomes
  • Follow and implement all Board of Education policies, administrative guidelines, and building regulations
  • Willingness to perform other duties as necessary and/or directed by the principal and/or special education administrator
