About The Position

Lake Shore Public Schools is seeking a qualified and compassionate Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Teacher for the Early Childhood Center (ECC). This is an LSFT bargaining unit position. The ECSE Teacher provides specialized instruction to two groups of young children, an AM class and a PM class, delivering individualized and developmentally appropriate learning experiences in accordance with each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). The successful candidate will collaborate with related service providers, paraprofessionals, and families to support the growth and development of preschool-aged children with special needs.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
  • Endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education (ZS) or equivalent (or willingness to obtain)
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or related field
  • Knowledge of IDEA, Michigan special education law, and early childhood assessment practices
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively with young children, families, and multidisciplinary teams

  • Experience working with young children with a range of disabilities preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate instruction to two sessions of students (AM and PM) in accordance with individual IEP goals and objectives
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs for all assigned students, including present levels, goals, and accommodations
  • Conduct and/or participate in evaluations, re-evaluations, and eligibility determinations for early childhood special education services
  • Collaborate with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers, and other related service providers
  • Supervise and direct the work of paraprofessionals and classroom associates assigned to the ECSE classrooms
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, IEP meetings, and developmental milestones
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including IEPs, progress reports, attendance, and required state/federal reporting
  • Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment that supports social-emotional, cognitive, and physical development
  • Implement positive behavior support strategies and classroom management appropriate for early childhood learners
  • Participate in child study teams, transition planning, and interagency coordination as needed
  • Attend staff meetings, professional development, and IEP meetings as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
