Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Consistent use of fine and gross motor skills, as well as strong sensory coordination, including hand-eye and cognitive-visual coordination.
  • Activities such as bending, crouching, reaching, standing, stooping, walking, turning, and speaking.
  • Organizing materials, recording information, and interacting verbally with students and staff.
  • Strong attention to cleanliness and detail.
  • Ability to lift and carry food containers and push meal carts.
  • Positive, cooperative attitude and ability to work with young children and classroom staff.
  • Basic understanding of nutrition and portion control for young children.
  • Patience, flexibility, caring personality, punctuality, and dependability.
  • Experience with monitoring social and emotional development and behavior management.
  • Ability to follow classroom routines and respond calmly to challenging behaviors or situations.
  • Current District employees interested in applying must complete an application.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, portion, and serve breakfast, snacks, and lunches for preschool classrooms in alignment with Head Start nutrition guidelines and individual student needs (e.g., allergies, dietary restrictions).
  • Ensure food is presented attractively and served at appropriate temperatures and times.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene procedures as outlined by local, state, and federal Head Start regulations.
  • Clean and sanitize food prep areas, serving carts, utensils, and containers before and after use.
  • Store food items safely and label leftovers or supplies as required.
  • Follow all students’ dietary restrictions and allergy needs.
  • Deliver meals to classrooms on time and assist teaching staff in creating a calm and organized meal/snack routine.
  • Monitor and assist children with self-help skills during mealtimes as needed, under teacher direction.
  • Communicate with teaching staff and supervisors about meal counts, student needs, and supply shortages.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily meal counts, food temperatures, and sanitation checklists.
  • Report supply inventory levels and assist with ordering as directed.
