About The Position

Supervision of Toddlers ages 19 months to 3 years old. Under general supervision, and according to specific procedures, the Lead Teacher (ECLT) is responsible for planning and executing classroom activities, assisting in the maintenance of a safe, healthy and stimulating classroom environment, and providing constant supervision of children at all times including planning time, outside play, meal time, and nap time. The Lead Teacher assists in the monitoring and training of Assistant Teachers, trainees, and supportive staff. They maintain sensitivity to children’s individuality and respond to those needs appropriately and quickly by guiding the behavior of children in positive, effective ways. The Lead Teacher maintains the highest level of professionalism at all times, encourages experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation, and socialization to promote further learning and thinking. They prepare the classroom environment and materials to support developmentally appropriate curriculum plans and learning experiences, and assess individual and group needs, attending to specific interests, strengths, and concerns. The Lead Teacher coordinates with Assistant Teachers when indicated, developing a collaborative approach that benefits all children in the classroom. They monitor and report child abuse, and attend and participate in trainings and appropriate professional development activities and meetings. There is an equally shared cleaning and sanitizing responsibility with the Assistant Teacher. The Lead Teacher engages in ongoing self-assessment about job performance and follows State Licensing Regulation, Health Department, and Fire Marshal Standards.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates knowledge and practical application of principles of childhood growth and development
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a licensed child care facility
  • Ability to apply Early Childhood Development theory in daily activities, and adapt to the individual needs of children
  • Significant decision and problem solving abilities
  • Ability to work as a team member collaborating with staff, families and community resources
  • Ability to maintain respectful relations and communication with staff, families, children and community
  • Ability to supervise children and ensure a safe environment
  • Ability to respond to events happening at all times in classroom, and outdoor play areas
  • American Heart Association; Heart Saver CPR and First Aid certification required to be completed in first 30 days of employment and to be kept current thereafter
  • Current on the Montana Early Childhood Project: Practitioner Registry within 15 days of hire
  • Infant Safety Essentials within 30 days
  • Health and Safety Required Professional Development within 90 days of hire
  • Complete mandatory 16 hour annual training
  • Keep current all St. Peter’s Health and State Child Care Licensing required immunizations
  • Demonstrates ability to handle multiples tasks and stressors effectively and efficiently
  • Demonstrates genuine interest and enjoyment of small children
  • Ability to stay calm in all situations and to respond to children in a quiet, reassuring manner
  • Demonstrates ability to exercise good judgement and critical thinking skills to ensure the safety and well being of children

Nice To Haves

  • Child Development Associate Certificate or College Degree preferred
