About The Position

The Cyert Center at Carnegie Mellon University is a full-day early care and education program serving the children of faculty, staff, and students. Founded in 1971, it has grown from a program of 13 children to its current enrollment of 290 children across two centers. The center is currently hiring Early Childhood Educators to join the team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong passion for early childhood education and the ability to collaborate with others. The program communicates the Center’s philosophy, which includes the Reggio Emilia Approach and Developmentally Appropriate Practice.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development, psychology, elementary education, special education, or related field OR
  • A bachelor’s degree, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or related field and 1 year of experience with children OR
  • An associate’s degree in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 2 years of experience with children OR
  • An associate’s degree, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 3 years of experience with children
  • Full range of body motion needed, and change positions/ have the mobility to interact with young children.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical exam (including TB test) for clearance to meet the physical requirements listed above.
  • Successful Background Checks
  • Child Protective Clearances for PA and all states lived in prior five years.
  • Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Educating and caring for young children, encouraging their individual growth and development.
  • Organizing a cohesive program and communicates the Center’s philosophy (Reggio Emilia Approach and Developmentally Appropriate Practice).
  • Assisting in creating a curriculum that uses inquiry-based teaching strategies with an emphasis on collaborative learning.
  • Adhering to The Department of Human Services licensing regulations and The National Association for the Education of Young Children’s accreditation standards.
  • Developing regular, ongoing, two-way communication with parents about children’s experiences, development, and learning, and participates in planning, organization, and dialogue/presentation for parent meetings.
  • Committing to best practices and continued professional development and growth, earning twenty-four (24) hours of required professional development annually.
  • Other duties as assigned.
