About The Position

The mission of the Children’s Museum Houston is to transform communities through innovative, child-centered learning that improves the trajectories of all children in Greater Houston. For more than four decades, Children’s Museum Houston has supported student achievement, empowered parents, and ignited a lifelong love of learning. We are consistently rated as one of the top children's museums in the nation. Our programming serves more than 900,000 participants annually at the Museum, at the Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center, and at 270+ outreach locations across Greater Houston. We welcome families with offerings that include 13 exhibits, a performing arts series, a full slate of cultural programming, science activities led by degreed educators, and weekly Free Family Nights.

Summary:
The Children’s Museum Houston is committed to enriching early childhood learning and fostering family engagement through dynamic and inclusive educational programs in the community and at the Museum. The Temporary Part-time Early Childhood Educator will play a central role in supporting the development and implementation of new programs to support children’s development and school readiness outcomes.
The Educator supports the development, testing, and delivery of engaging, developmentally appropriate early childhood programs both at the Museum and in the community. Working closely with other members of the Early Childhood Initiatives team, this role assists in creating and refining new initiatives that foster family engagement, early learning, and school readiness. Through inclusive, culturally responsive experiences, the educator promotes curiosity, early literacy, and holistic child development. This grant-funded position is expected to conclude on or before August 15, 2026, and ensures that programs are accessible, impactful, and aligned with the Museum’s mission to enrich early childhood learning and strengthen family connections.

Requirements

• Knowledge of Early Childhood development is required.
• Experience in Early Childhood Education is required.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to work in a flexible environment, problem-solve, and respond to program needs.
• Detail-oriented and a team player.
• Proficiency in using applications such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and other software packages.

Nice To Haves

• Bilingual proficiency in English and another language (written and spoken) is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Actively engage and interact with children and families in the Gallery of Wonder, fostering meaningful play and learning experiences, supporting children's development, and creating a welcoming environment that celebrates and values all families.
• Plan, prepare, and facilitate Gallery of Wonder learning experiences, including setting up materials, activities, and environments that encourage meaningful child-caregiver interaction, exploration, and learning through play.
• Facilitate Early Childhood programs by preparing materials, organizing learning environments, managing set-up, implementing workshops, and engaging children, caregivers, and participants in meaningful learning experiences during each event.
• Support the cleaning and storage of kits and resources after each workshop or event.
• Communicate successes, challenges, and program feedback to the supervisor after each workshop or event.
• Participate in other Museum initiatives and events as needed.
• Stay abreast of current events and pertinent information in Early Childhood education.
• Attend planning and other meetings as requested.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
