About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for current and future full-time Early Childhood Educator 1's for the Child and Family Research Center’s Home Visiting Program. This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. Early Childhood Educator Home Visitors must implement a research-based, home-based curriculum that delivers developmentally, linguistically, and culturally appropriate home visits and group socialization activities that support children's cognitive, social, and emotional growth for later success in school. This position will collaborate with the Parr Outreach program, which supports individuals who are currently incarcerated or have recently been released in Washoe County. Parr Outreach focuses on providing both mothers and fathers with services along with the care providers for the children in the community. As part of the role, candidates will need to successfully pass an additional background check with the Washoe County Sheriff's Department in order to access the jail’s designated unit and meet with program participants. Early Childhood Educator Home Visitors work with families to provide experiences that support their child's development and learning, engage in back-and-forth supportive interactions, and use the home as the learning environment. This position may perform other duties as assigned including enrollments, community outreach, training, family engagement activities and parenting classes. Requirements

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, early childhood education, or closely related field and one (1) year of experience teaching children in a childcare, pre-school, or group setting; OR Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two (2) years of experience teaching children in a childcare, pre-school, or group setting; OR Two (2) years of experience as a Child Care Worker II in Nevada State service; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above
  • Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
  • A valid Class “C” Nevada driver’s license or higher operator’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
  • Current CPR & First Aid training
  • FBI background check and fingerprinting every 5 years
  • TB test every 2 years
  • Successfully pass an additional background check with the Washoe County Sheriff's Department in order to access the jail’s designated unit and meet with program participants.
