About The Position

Knox County Board of Developmental Disabilities is seeking an Early Childhood Developmental Specialist to join its team. This is a full-time position with a normal work schedule of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The starting salary is $44,821 commensurate with experience. The role involves providing developmental services to infants and toddlers from birth through five years of age with a disability, in collaboration with their parents or custodial guardians. These services are identified on the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) for children birth to three and on the Child and Family Plan for children who continue to receive early childhood services. The specialist will administer assessments like the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development III and Routines Based Interview, provide clinical assessments, and develop written developmental summaries. The position requires maintaining a mixed caseload, collaborating with other professionals in the Help Me Grow network, and attending meetings to develop IFSPs. Intervention strategies will be implemented through a coaching model, focusing on natural learning opportunities within the family's daily activities and routines. The specialist will also support the transition of children and families to preschool special education or other appropriate services and maintain timely case notes and documentation in compliance with relevant regulations.

Requirements

Holds a bachelor’s or master’s degree in education, health, social or behavior science, social services, human services or other related field from an accredited college or university.
Or holds a bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field from an accredited college or university and has a least two years of full time (or equivalent part-time) supervised paid experience working with children birth through five with disabilities, developmental delays, or diagnosed physical or mental conditions.
Holds a current DODD Developmental Specialist certification or the ability to obtain one.
Holds valid Ohio Drivers License.
Current first aid and CPR card.
BCI/FBI, nurse registry, abuse registry clearance, pre-employment drug screening.
Knowledge of developmental disabilities and the five developmental domains.
Knowledge of psychology and behavioral disorders.
Good understanding of family dynamics.
Knowledge of implementation of Bayley, RBI, IFSP.
Knowledge of proper lifting techniques.
Knowledge of medical procedures applicable to ensure the health and safety of individuals attending the Early Childhood Services Program.
Ability to write developmental summaries and psycho-social family assessments.
Ability to share results of developmental evaluation with parents.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, families, supervisors, Help Me Grow staff, therapeutic team members, and community collaborative partners.
Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form.
Ability to recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action.
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate documentation.
Ability to do heavy lifting (minimum of 50 pounds).

Responsibilities

Provide developmental services to infants and toddlers birth through five years of age with a disability, in collaboration with the parents or custodial guardians.
Develop and maintain a positive environment and relationship with individuals, families, coworkers, providers, and the community while maintaining respect and support to those served.
Implement vision and mission of the KCBDD.
Administer the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development III to determine eligibility for infants and toddlers.
Provide a clinical assessment of a child’s developmental functioning level and need for services.
Implement a family assessment by administrating a state approved tool i.e., Routines Based Interview.
Incorporate all developmental information into a written developmental summary and share information with the family within 45 days of referral to Help Me Grow.
Maintain a mixed caseload of children who will receive early intervention as well as early childhood services.
Collaborate with other professionals in Help Me Grow to provide timely and effective interventions, evaluations and therapies that adhere to the policies and procedural guidelines of Help Me Grow.
Attend meetings and participate in the development of the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) for children between the ages of 0 to three.
Continue to provide services on a Child and Family Plan for children receiving early childhood services between the ages of 3 thru 5.
Implement individualized interventions through the use of the coaching model.
Collaborate with other professionals that are members of the early childhood services multi-disciplinary developmental team.
Attend regular team meetings, share clinical impressions, interpretation and therapeutic interventions.
Attend joint home visits with other professionals from the team.
Provide individualized supports that are unique and diversified and meet the needs and convenience of the family.
Support transition of the child and family to preschool special education or other appropriate services including Service and Support Administration.
Complete appropriate materials on the child as they relate to intake, evaluations, assessments and recommendations; comply with County Board and Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities rules and regulations in Early Intervention.
Maintain timely case notes in Gatekeeper that accurately reflects the families IFSP and Child and Family Plan outcomes.
Understand and abide by HIPAA regulations and standards.
Report Unusual Incident and Major Unusual Incidents as required by law; cooperate with investigators and complete appropriate forms as required.
Provide reports and clinical data to the Early Childhood Services Director.
Attend trainings to maintain optimum knowledge and practice of evidenced based services in the Early Childhood field.
Other duties as required.
