About The Position

The Early Childhood DTC Treatment Center Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging, standards-aligned instruction for students in grades K-2. The teacher supports students’ academic, social, and emotional development during the early primary school years. The teacher collaborates closely with clinical staff, paraprofessionals, and families to create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment that promotes both academic growth and personal development.

Requirements

  • Exceptional knowledge of the needs of students in a therapeutic setting and collaboration with clinical and educational staff.
  • Knowledge needed to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and to speak effectively with middle-aged students and/or employees in a school environment.
  • Knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations.
  • Strong skills in classroom management and de-escalation.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practices and individualized instruction.
  • Strong communication skills with students, staff, administration, and the public.
  • Understanding a child’s behavior and dynamics.
  • Ability to be compassionate, patient, and flexible approach to student needs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work and effectively attend to students.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Application of percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations is required.
  • South Carolina certification in early childhood or related field
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation
  • May be required to travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
  • Prior to beginning employment, negative tb test results must be provided
  • Applicants must submit official transcripts, three professional references with at least one supervisory reference and a copy of the appropriate credentials as part of the application process.
  • The recommended candidate will be required to provide personal information necessary to complete the background check such as date of birth, gender, and race to remain in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

  • Crisis intervention or de-escalation training preferred
  • Experience with teaching students with emotional or behavioral disorders preferred
  • Experience with special education, alternative education, and therapeutic settings preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized lesson plans aligned with students’ IEPs and state academic standards.
  • Modify curriculum and instructional strategies to meet diverse learning and emotional needs.
  • Integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) and behavioral support into daily instruction.
  • Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and crisis prevention strategies.
  • Maintain a structured, positive classroom environment using trauma-informed and restorative practices.
  • Collaborate with clinical and behavioral staff to reinforce therapeutic goals during instructional time.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including therapists, social workers, case managers, and support staff.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings, IEP meetings, and parent conferences.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress and behavior.
  • Maintain accurate academic records, attendance, and behavioral data.
  • Complete progress notes, report cards, and documentation required by licensing and education standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all school district, state, and agency policies and procedures.
