About The Position

The Family Learning Center is an Early Childhood Development Laboratory School, which exists to provide quality care for young children and a quality learning experience for College students preparing for careers in Early Childhood.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of experience working with young children in a licensed childcare facility
  • Candidate must obtain and maintain a clear background check as outlined by Texas Minimum Standards for Licensed Child Care centers before employment and throughout the duration of employment.
  • Must know and consistently meet Texas Minimum Standards for Licensed Child Care Centers established by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services Child Care Licensing Division.
  • Must exhibit a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilities.
  • Regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of each employee.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s Degree in Child Development or Early Childhood
  • CDEC Certificate
  • First Aid CPR

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and implement an early childhood education curriculum for children ages six weeks through five years of age.
  • Detailed lesson plans must be completed weekly for the appropriate classroom.
  • Maintain developmental records, portfolios, etc. for children to ensure their needs are being met.
  • The case records should have completed forms, narratives, and reports to provide an accurate picture of each child.
  • Plan and prepare a classroom environment that promotes the cultural variety found in our society.
  • Promote and demonstrate appropriate respect for cultural diversity among coworkers, College students, and all work-related contacts.
  • Maintain the arrangement, appearance, décor, and learning environment following appropriate standards.
  • Adherence to the Center’s dress code is an integral part of this standard.
  • Interact and maintain positive professional relationships with College staff, students, parents, and children.
  • Model best practices and developmentally appropriate activities for children in each classroom to provide a good field experience for College students who are assigned observation time at the Laboratory School.
  • Maintain and enhance knowledge and skills in early childhood education through activities including workshops and/or courses and membership in professional organizations.
  • Attend work regularly in accordance with the College and Center policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
