About The Position

The Aide is responsible for assisting with classroom operations, including planning and implementing activities, maintaining the classroom environment, preparing meals, and supervising children. This position supports individual children or groups of children with social or emotional regulation needs by helping address challenging behaviors, observing to determine possible causes, implementing intervention strategies, and teaching new social and communication skills. The Aide assists children on and off the bus and helps maintain orderly conduct while transportation is provided. The role must meet Head Start Performance Standards to support each child’s development and school readiness while developing and maintaining professional working relationships with families, partners, co-workers, and supervisors.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Early Childhood Education or a Center Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
  • If non-degreed, a minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential must be completed within two years of the hire date.
  • Previous work or volunteer experience with groups of preschool-age children and working with the public.
  • Strong computer, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Bilingual skills.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the teacher’s lead and assist with the daily classroom learning environment and implementation of the curriculum.
  • Provide food service and transportation services, if provided, to children.
  • Abide by MVAC policies, Head Start Performance Standards, and Minnesota Department of Human Services Child Care Center Statutes and Rules.
  • Complete paperwork and data entry accurately and in a timely manner according to program requirements and the forms routing checklist.
  • Assist children on and off the bus and help maintain orderly conduct while transportation is provided.
